As a heart-centered woman, the ability to overcome overwhelm in business is going to be key to your success and your ability to stay aligned.
I understand that you are managing multiple roles at work, while wearing various hats in your personal life, and even the most skilled multitaskers out there, experience moments of overwhelm in business, when it all gets too much, and you are faced with a “To Do List” a mile long.
The part where overwhelm sets in, is when you sit down in front of your laptop to work, and you end up fumbling around, scrolling and doing everything and anything else besides what you are meant to be doing, leaving you feeling frustrated and more overwhelmed than before, as you feel like you are wasting valuable time.
When you are feeling overwhelmed in business, this behaviour is normal and this happens because you genuinely have too much to do, as have potentially overcommitted and overextended yourself and are feeling stressed, pressured, and potentially borderline burnout. For heart-centered women in business, it is quite easy to overcommit and overextend both personally and professionally, which is a sure way to burn yourself out.
Burnout can be a challenging, stressful, and unsettling experience, as you feel completely off alignment from your usual ability to work, create and produce feeling inspired, enthusiastic, and passionate.
This is why I am super excited to share my personal seven step formula with you, as these steps will help you overcome overwhelm right away, so that you can get back on track and fast.
This is exactly this, just stop. Stop whatever you are doing (unless you are driving your car or are operating heavy machinery, in this case rather stop when you arrive at your destination or it’s safe to do so). This first step when feeling overwhelmed is a must, as trying to create and produce from a place of overwhelm isn’t going to give you your best results.
This is where Pilates breathing comes in handy. Drop and relax your shoulders, breathe in through your nose five counts and sigh the air out through your mouth five counts. You can do this about 3 – 5 times each. You probably haven’t noticed, but when you are overwhelmed, you are more than likely holding your breathe and your shoulders are up by your ears, blocking your path of ease within your system.
Step outside for ten minutes to just be and breathe, or if it’s raining just step into another room that is away from your workspace and has a relaxed calming feel. This step will shift you from the “state” that you are in and give you the “break” that you actually need, so that you can slow down enough to get back into alignment with you, your essence and your vibe.
After taking a ten minute breather, this is a great question to ask yourself. What is it that you want to achieve? (This will be your priority focus.) With this step you will redirect your attention to the most important tasks at hand so you can restart and get yourself back on track in the right direction.
In relation to your priority focus, what do you need to do to achieve this? Now you can pull out your notepad and pen and jot these points down, giving you focus, direction and inspired aligned action steps.
From your list you have just created, highlight the one point that you know is your starting point. You can then reorder each point in sequence just so that you have an aligned task list and plan in place that you can easily follow step by step.
This is your final step. Now that you know your starting point, as it’s nicely highlighted, you can head back to your laptop and start getting things done. I highly recommend ticking off each step as you go, as this is a great way to stay motivated and activate your brain reward pathways.
What I love about this seven step formula is that you now have a step by step plan for yourself and at any stage that you may feel stuck or overwhelmed you can do the stop, breathe, shift, go back to your list and take off where you left off, which makes staying on track super easy for you moving forward.
